A magnificent Richardsonian Mansion on St. James Court, The Conrad-Caldwell House, is an extraordinary example of Victorian Romanesque Revival architecture. Also known as "Conrad's Castle," this is one of the most stunning of Old Louisville's houses. Commissioned in the 1890’s by Louisville businessman, Theophilus Conrad, and designed by architect, Arthur Loomis, the mansion was home to the William E. Caldwell family for three decades through the 1930’s. It exemplifies the ambitions and lifestyles of Louisville’s entrepreneurs at the turn of the century.
