Making Your Mark with Monograms

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Monograms are identifying marks, a combination of letters emblematic of who you are or better yet, who you are to become. Historically, monograms were used to stake claim on one’s property. Today, they are most often featured on thank you notes, in recognition of the bride’s newly formed union. When I was first engaged, seeing my new initials was elation. Second to my engagement ring, they provided a glimpse into married life, with the simple switch of just one letter.

I’m a monogram enthusiast, admittedly.

However, I became emotionally reconnected once I saw the design work of my new favorite firm, “The Inviting Pear.” They are masters of the monogram and can make an otherwise formal art, whatever it is that best defines the two of you as a couple. In the samples below, you can see for yourself how they were able to bring one couple’s theme to life through their monogram. Go Inviting Pear!

Veils A La Mode

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Sara Gabriel is an expert designer of custom veils, headpieces and jewelry for brides.  Her designs are bridecentric, with careful consideration given to a bride’s hairstyle, the cut of her gown and the tone of her ceremony.  As a Parson’s alum, I was always fascinated with fashion illustration, and I love how she illustrates each style of veil with her own sketches.  If only I had known, I would’ve snatched up her “Carmen” veil, which she characterizes as a “Tulip veil with a cut edge.”  She has some of her designs at the Couture Closet in LaGrange, for those of you interested.
