How to Make Your Wedding Eco-Friendly

Photographs

  • Hire a photographer who utilizes a digital workflow program (an online service) to showcase wedding proofs, instead of the traditional method of processing your photographs for viewing. This eliminates the unnecessary use of paper and toxic chemicals used in traditional proofing.

  • Dining

This is one of your best opportunities to build awareness and education about eco-friendly practices. Provide your guests with food and drink so delicious, they may be surprised to discover that it is eco-friendly.

  • Serve organic, locally-grown fare, including seasonal produce, farm-friendly cheeses and meats, and fish from sustainable sources.
  • Minimize your meat dishes, since raising cattle requires a significantly higher amount of energy than growing vegetables.
  • Opt for organic beer, wine, juice and coffee. Make your own beer and wine and give the bottles to guests as favors.
  • To minimize waste, use real glasses (even recycled) and dishes, as well as cloth napkins.
  • Use plates and flatware made of biodegradable, compostable materials such as sugar cane, cornstarch or tropical leaves.
  • Give leftovers to charity.
